What is Hiking Buddies UK and How does the Facebook group work?

We’re a UK-based, member-led hiking group. So, what does that mean? It means that members of our Facebook group who fancy going on a hike—but don’t want to go alone—can create their own hiking events and invite others to join.

All events created by members will appear in the Events tab at the top of the group page. We encourage members to use the event template provided below to ensure others have all the information they need to make an informed decision about whether the hike is suitable for their skill level and experience.

Member-led hikes are free to attend and are not led by qualified mountain guides. Participants take part at their own risk. We recommend that members consider taking out personal liability insurance, and that event coordinators carry out a basic risk assessment—though this is not mandatory.

Any paid hiking events shared in the group will be led by a qualified Mountain Leader and will be covered by Public Liability insurance.
