HIKING BUDDIES UK was formed in 2021 as a result of needing a community dedicated to assisting those dealing with loneliness, lack of friends and a need to get out into nature and learn new outdoor skills. HBUK evolved into what it is today—a community, a family, and a safe haven.

Founding Director

Marlon Miah

Hi I'm Marlon, based in North West England.
In my spare moments, I like to spend time with my family or go hiking.

Many people have asked me why I founded this group. The short answer is that I discovered my love for adventure and making new acquaintances after struggling with my mental health and seeking an escape.

I began hiking and climbing mountains, but I wasn't completely confident in my abilities and I didn't like going on these long drives by myself, so I conceived the idea to form this community to help others in a similar situation.

Clare Marx

I'm Clare and I've had a love for hiking since my teenage years. Im from Teesside so my first hike was up a Teeside favourite - Roseberry Topping. I'm a history buff and lover of waterfalls so I tend to vary my hiking routes to include ruins, caves or waterfalls.

I'm a proud HBUK member and create events where I can, but you will usually find me behind the scenes, running the Facebook group, tweaking the website or managing the Instagram and Tiktok accounts.
